Waxing Tips & Homecare:

Is there anyone who should avoid waxing altogether?
If you are using (or have recently used) Retina-A, or Accutane, or any other prescribed medication that might make your skin extra sensitive, you are not a candidate for hair removal by waxing. Skin is prone to tearing, which can cause pain and scarring.

How can I prepare for my waxing appointment, and what do I need to know for homecare?
For your waxing appointment, it is best if your hair length is about ¼ inch (about eyelash laength). This makes it easier and quicker for your esthetician, meaning less pain for you.
We also recommend scheduling waxing appointments every 4-6 weeks (according to the length of your hair and speed of growth). This allows the hair to be the appropriate length, without getting too long. Also, the more regular your waxing appointments are, the quicker it takes for your sessions to be less painful. We don’t recommend shaving between wax appointments (trimming is okay), as this causes hair to grow in thicker, causing your next appointment to be more painful.

Waxing Homecare

  • It is recommended that you avoid chlorine, saltwater, hot tubs and hot showers for 12 – 24 hours after waxing, as these can cause irritation and sensitivity.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for 12 – 24 hours, then MAKE SURE you wear SPF 15 or higher and reapply after 2 hours. If this is overlooked, you could end up with a sunburn, scars, a rash, and increased sensitivity.
  • Twice a week, beginning 12 – 24 hours after your wax appointment, you should exfoliate your skin with an exfoliant. This removes the top dead layers of skin, preventing ingrown hairs, and leaves skin softer.
  • We recommend that you moisturize your skin every day, twice if necessary, to keep skin healthy and soft. Dry skin in a waxing appointment (especially dry legs/knees) can result in sticky skin afterwards.

Please be aware that if you are currently using any sort of prescribed acne medication, that you should not be waxing. You must have stopped using internal medications for 3-6 months prior to getting waxed.

FAQ & Homecare for Brazilian Wax:

What is a Brazilian wax and what is a French wax?

  • A Brazilian wax is the removal of all pubic hairs, including between buttocks
  • A French wax is where a strip of hair is left, about 1-1 ½ inches, all the way from front to back. Hair removed on pubic bone is optional.
  • A Bikini wax is removal of hairs which would be visible outside underwear/bathing suit.

Do I need to wear ‘old’ underwear?
This is not necessary. Your therapist will drape you with a towel to ensure your comfort.
