Energize your organs with Cranio
Sacral therapy, the gentle, non-invasive touch of
the fluid that flows through the central nervous system. For
clients who have previous experience with massage.
Cranio-Sacral is a light-touch
therapy to help release restrictions in the craniosacral system
which surrounds the brain and spinal cord.
It’s gentle techniques improve
the capability of the central nervous system, dissipate the
negative effects of stress, strengthen resistance to disease
and enhance overall health.
Biodynamic craniosacral therapy takes
a whole-person approach to healing and the inter-connections
of mind, body and spirit are deeply acknowledged. It is an
effective form of treatment for a wide range of illnesses
helping to create the optimal conditions for health, encouraging
vitality and facilitating a sense of well-being. It is suitable
for people of all ages including babies, children and the
elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases.
Life expresses itself as motion. At a
deep level of our physiological functioning all healthy, living
tissues subtly "breathe" with the motion of life
- a phenomenon that produces rhythmic impulses which can be
palpated by sensitive hands. The presence of these subtle
rhythms in the body was discovered by osteopath Dr William
Sutherland over 100 years ago, after he had a remarkable insight
while examining the specialized articulations of cranial bones.
Contrary to popular belief Dr Sutherland realized that cranial
sutures were, in fact, designed to express small degrees of
motion. He undertook many years of research during which he
demonstrated the existence of this motion and eventually concluded
it is essentially produced by the body's inherent life force,
which he referred to as the "Breath of Life." Furthermore,
Dr Sutherland discovered that the motion of cranial bones
he first discovered is closely connected to subtle movements
that involve a network of interrelated tissues and fluids
at the core of the body; including cerebrospinal fluid (the
'sap in the tree'), the central nervous system, the membranes
that surround the central nervous system and the sacrum.
Typically craniosacral treatment is carried
out on a fully-clothed patient in a supine position. The therapist
places their hands lightly on the patient's body, tuning in
to the patient by ‘listening’ with their hands
or, in Sutherland's words, "with thinking fingers".
Therapeutic contact between the patient and therapist may
involve entrainment between patient and practitioner. Patients
often experience a sense of deep relaxation during and after
the treatment session, and may feel light-headed.
Craniosacral therapy (also called cranial
osteopathy, osteopathy in the cranial field or cranial
therapy) is a method of alternative medicine used
by craniosacral therapists or osteopaths who claim to assess
and enhance the functioning of the patient by accessing their
primary respiratory mechanism, which consists of the membranes
and cerebrospinal fluid of the central nervous system. Proponents
claim that measurements of craniosacral motion are a function
of the cardiovascular system, and that by working with the
body, including the skull they can remove restrictions in
the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, relieving stress, decreasing
pain, and enhancing overall health.
